Bonded Fillings

Some patients do not like the idea of having metal fillings placed in their teeth due to the contrast between the metal and the natural colour of the teeth. Both amalgam and amalgam-free fillings are commonly used to treat a wide array of dental problems such as cavities, chips, and cracks. Also, some patients believe that amalgam materials may cause health issues, although research proves otherwise.

Dr. Paul Deratnay, your Forest Hill dentist, strives to provide our patients with our practice’s strict level of dental care. One of the dental procedures that we offer is bonded fillings. Bonded fillings differ from traditional amalgam fillings mainly through the fact they do not contain any amalgam or mercury materials. Bonded fillings are made of a composite resin which can be recoloured to allow the fillings to more closely resemble the shade of your teeth. The composite material can help repair damage done to teeth through decay or cracks. Once placed, these bonded fillings can also be reshaped to match your tooth’s structure.

Bonded fillings can be placed in a single appointment by a cosmetic dentist in Forest Hill. During this appointment, your dentist will first examine your problematic tooth and prepare it for the procedure. In most instances, the tooth is cleaned and the decayed portion of the tooth is removed using a dental drill. The composite resin is then applied to the tooth’s structure and molded into the desired shape. The material is then fused and hardened with the tooth’s surface via a curing light. Any excess material is smoothed and the tooth is buffed to help blend the material.
